AYAR MANCO

Inca Hero God

The most successful of the Ayar brothers

He is one of the four ancestral Ayar brothers who emerged from the cave of refuge at Pacariqtambo.

He led his brothers – and their sisters – out of the caves and went on to found the Inca civilization at Cuzco under the name Manco Capac along with his sister and wife Mama Ocllo.

His brothers didn’t fare so well – they were all unfortunately locked up or unexpectedly turned to stone. Leaving the coast clear for Ayar Manco to become the famous head of the Inca empire without any interference from his sibling rivals.

Note: there is another version of this story but it’s more or less the same apart from fewer brothers and more golden staffs.
