SARANYU

Hindu Sky Goddess

Elusive Sky Goddess and Mother of the Ashvins

The daughter of Tvashtri, she married Vivasvan the Rising Sun God. Being of a shy and retiring nature, she hid in the clouds leaving a cloned replica of herself on view.

This was so realistic that Vivasvan fathered Manu with the imitation before the truth dawned on him. So he searched Heaven and Earth and finally found his wife disguised as a mare. Naturally then he turned himself into a stallion...

Eventually Saranyu became the mother of the Ashvins via Surya. But what happened to the clone?
