The colorful deities and demons of India...

KASYAPA

Hindu God

Also known as Kashyapa, Kaśyapa

Sage and irritable multiple husband

His domestic arrangements are not the most sensible for a sage. For a start he is married to all thirteen of Daksha’s daughters. One of these is Diti. See what he has to put up with there.

He is also the father of the little devils Hiranyâksha and Hiranyakashipu who grew up to be utter demons. Then there are the giant Daityas, who were too big to get into Heaven.

With all that to contend with, it’s not surprising he has a tendency to be grouchy — for example when he tried to cheat Tripitaka.
