DHANVANTARI

Hindu Healer legendary mortal

Doctor to the Gods

A mortal who held the first cup of Amrita — or was it Soma?

He was not allowed to drink it so it was probably Soma as Amrita was a sort of porridge of immortality. I suppose it could be slurped. Anyway, never mind that.

Dhanvantari was given the status of Heavenly Physician with special dispensation to teach mortals. It is alleged he invented the Ayurveda system of medicine, although the vital paperwork appears to have gone missing.
