The colorful deities and demons of India...

BRIHASPATI

Hindu God

God of the Planet Jupiter and Lord of Spiritual Pomp

He is the planet with the red spot, which no celestial face cream seems able to remove. Please do not look too closely through your telescopes.

His titles include ‘Lord of Prayer’, ‘Leader of the Herd’, ‘Senior Elder’, ‘Wise One’ and ‘Master of Gatherings’. He is also in charge of Power-Gen (The stored energy from sacrifices made by humans).

He presides over just about anything, and is not averse to doing doorman duty to keep demons away with his fire arrows.

As befits his diplomatic mission, he is extremely tactful and tried very hard to keep a bad scandal under wraps when Soma abducted his wife Tara and made her pregnant. Brihaspati and Tara brought the child Budha up as their own and gave him the job of being the planet Mercury. Apart from the twitching curtains of the celestial neighborhood, the affair did not get leaked. Until now.

The rumors that vast quantities of vintage Soma Champagne may have found their way to the Brihaspati cellars by way of apology have never been substantiated. Definitely no leaks there.
