Lion-taming Queen of Cyrene

Although the daughter of a king (Hypseus), her ancestry included Nymphs and Gods. She liked nothing better than running through the woods hunting dangerous beasts.

When Apollo saw her grappling with a lion, he got very excited and whisked her away in his chariot to Libya. She soon founded the town of Cyrene in Africa and later gave birth to Aristaeus.
