St. SIMEON OF JERUSALEM

Christian Saint

The Holy Cousin of Our Lord

He was the older cousin of Jesus and might also be the Simon who was brother of St. James the Less.

He became a bishop in the early days when fractions and frictions were splitting the new-fangled Christianity. Everyone had their own book of rules which proved they were right and you were wrong.

The Romans found them all an intolerable nuisance and carried out violent purges which seemed to make matters worse with Martyrdom being much sought-after.

It is amazing that our Saint survived to the age of eleventy-one before Trajan decided that he should be crucified.
