St. RONAN OF IONA

Christian Saint

Also known as Ronan Of Eoroby, Ronan The Hermit

Madness-dodging hermit

Scottish Hermit.

In search of the perfect hermitage, he chose to live on the Isle of Lewis (aka Eoroby). Here he lived as an anchorite with his own cell and a Holy Well which could cure madness and internal disorders.

This was very fortunate as otherwise he could have gone mad or suffered from hiccups. Unfortunately he was instead tormented by women’s evil tongues and visions.

Luckily he found himself miraculously transferred to North Rona via a whale. For those who don’t know, this is the transportation method of choice for saints.

Apart from a few whippings by the Devil thereafter, it was peace and quiet at last.
