St. ROMARIC

Christian Saint

Went from rags to Abbot

As a boy he lost his father and inheritance in Merovingia. He knelt at the feet of a Bishop asking for help but only got a kick in the face.

Taking this to mean he must help himself, he went after worldly wealth in a ruthless fashion and was soon able to afford a wife.

A visiting monk, far more approachable than the abbot, pointed out he no longer needed to be a slave to his possessions or needed to ill-treat the poor.

So Romaric gave away property to help the poor and freed all his serfs. This felt so good that he became a monk himself and took up gardening for a while.

This made him feel even better and he established a Happy Family Monastery for both men and women so he could accommodate his wife, two daughters, grandchildren etc. Because as Abbot he was in charge now.
