St. NOTBURGA

Christian Saint

Notburga was a cook who gave leftovers to the poor

So Notburga gave most of her own meals to the needy — but still got the sack as it was assumed that she was disobeying orders.

She went to work for a farmer. Meanwhile back at the castle the wife of the new count died and the domestic side of things went all to pot — especially on the culinary side.

The count had to go and beg for the return of his saintly cook on her own terms. We hope she asked for a pay rise. And so after that the poor at the castle gate probably received three star three-course ‘leftovers’.

We don’t know what happened to the pigs. Perhaps the poor got to eat them as well.
