St. MELANIA THE YOUNGER
Christian Saint
Freedom fighter
A mother who nearly died in childbirth, her husband Pinian was so relieved when she survived he gave her a choice to do anything she wished.
This seemed to include his mother-in-law as well, or maybe she just took advantage. So his villa was used as a hospice and his estates were sold to buy the freedom of thousands of slaves.
They then moved to Africa to escape Goths, and eventually ended up in Jerusalem where our Saint outlived Pinian and her mother.
