St. MARGARET OF ANTIOCH

Christian Saint

Also known as Margaret The Virgin, Marina The Great Martyr

Patron saint of Childbirth who was swallowed by a dragon

The story might be hard to swallow. There is no record that she ever existed — but you must never let minor details like this put you off. How can she have a feast day then?

Persecuted by a Roman Prefect for refusing his favors, she was tortured and thrown into jail where the Devil Satan came in dressed up as a dragon and swallowed her.

Luckily she was still wearing her cross, and with its aid split the dragon in two leaving her unharmed.

This miraculous delivery has made her the Patron of Childbirth.
