St. LOUIS IX

Christian Saint

Patron Saint of Masons, Stone Workers, Sculptors and Barbers

King of France who was a keen crusader and souvenir collector.

He returned from the first crusade with Christ’s crown of thorns and a piece of the true cross.

Except these were given to him by the Emperor of Constantinople, as all the king had managed to achieve in six years was to get himself captured and held to ransom.

Undeterred he set off on the second crusade, but caught something nasty and died before he could get into any more trouble.
