St. LEVAN
Christian Saint
Also known as Selevan
Cornish Saint with a stone
In the village of St Levan there is a large split rock near the church. This is where the Saint used to rest after a day’s fishing. One day he whacked it with his staff and it split. He then prophesied:
’When with panniers astride
A pack horse can ride,
Through St Levan’s Stone
The World will be done.’
There are not many people riding pack horses these days with or without panniers. They still wouldn’t get through. Please don’t lose any sleep over this.
