St. LAWRENCE JUSTINIAN

Christian Saint

Also known as Laurence Justinian, Lawrence Giustiniani, Lorenzo Giustiniani

First Patriarch of Venice

At nineteen he had a dream of Eternal Wisdom in the form of a woman. She told him how to seek and find everlasting peace.

So he became a monk, dressed in rags and didn’t say very much at all ever again. This got him promoted to Bishop. Mysterious ways indeed.

Reluctant to become a bishop, he kept his life as simple as possible when chosen. He avoided pomp and ceremony whenever he could, and would only help the poor with bread and clothes as he knew they were not to be trusted with cash.
