St. KATERI TEKAKWITHA
Christian Saint
Native American from the Turtle Clan, she was known as 'Lily of the Mohawks'
After a smallpox outbreak in New York State she was left a sick orphan. Missionaries discovered her living with an uncle, and baptized her.
This isolated her even further as this sort of thing was not popular amongst most of her clan. So she went on a long walk of two hundred miles to find more compatible surroundings.
This did not happen until she reached an American Christian Community in Canada which took her in. Three years later she was eligible for Sainthood.
