St. JOHN OF BEVERLEY

Christian Saint

Bishop of York known for his kindness

He personally healed a dumb boy who had lost all his hair due to ringworm. (We’re not sure what made the boy dumb — perhaps it was the shock of going bald.)

Syllable by syllable, the Bishop taught the boy to speak, while tending to his scalp until upon it flourished as fine a head of hair as could possibly be.

Why Beverley? Because he built the monastery there, and it was where he went for his retirement.
