St. JAMES THE LESS

Christian Saint

Also known as James The Lesser

Patron Saint of Uruguay, also Fullers and Hatters

The other original Disciple called James, not to be confused with St. James the Great.

It may sound belittling to be called ‘the Less’, but he was probably just a bit shorter.

He may have become the first Bishop of Jerusalem but not for long. After being stoned someone hit him on the head with a fuller’s pole or bat — an implement for stretching or smoothing cloth — and split his skull.

So he is now the Patron of Fullers, and when did you last see one of these in the garment trade?
