St. GUY OF ANDERLECHT

Christian Saint

Saint who financially embarrassed himself

Peasant and pilgrim who secured a job as a sacristan for a local church and then came up with an amazing idea for a get-rich-quick scheme. He was sure it would benefit the poor. Of which he was one.

It all went sadly wrong of course, and he had to keep out of sight by going on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

This took seven years. He then returned home to Brussels utterly worn out and died in the hut of a peasant.
