St. ELIZABETH ANN SETON

Christian Saint

Also known as Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton

The very first saint in America

She is a USA original. Her story, briefly, is this: Five children, then wham!, husband goes bankrupt and contracts T.B.

They go to Italy to seek cure. Husband dies instead. Italian friends introduce her to Catholicism.

She goes back to America and is ostracized because of new faith. She takes on four jobs to feed the kids. Yes, four.

Bishop of Baltimore comes to her aid, and she gets to establish The Daughters of Charity of St. Joseph for sick and poor children. The result of all this hard work is glorious saintdom.
