St. CHARLES BORROMEO

Christian Saint

Catchy Patron Saint of Catechists and Catechumens

That’s Sunday School to you. A man of noble blood, he became Archbishop of Milan.

He is the one responsible for promoting Children’s Sunday Schools. Perhaps because he started out young himself — he was a Cardinal by the time he was twenty-two.

He is perhaps best known for walking barefoot around the city of Milan during a terrible pestilence, praying to be taken as a sacrifice on behalf of this people.

Miraculously, neither he nor his twenty-eight followers caught anything horrible in the way of foot disease and the people were more or less spared.

Now he is Patron Saint of Teaching and Learning, plus for reasons which we are reluctant to investigate, Stomach Aches.
