St. BRENDAN
Christian Saint
Also known as Brendan Of Clonfert, Brendan The Navigator
Patron Saint of Whales, Sailors, Boats and Travelers
The amazing sailing monk of Clonfert.
As an abbot he took seventeen monks on the voyage of a lifetime in a large leather coracle.
In seven exciting years in the Atlantic they encountered everything from icebergs to volcanoes to impossible mythical monsters like whales.
Judging from the writings known as the ‘Navigational Exploits’ put together by a monk, they probably reached America nine hundred years before Columbus. After all, they were searching for the Blessed Land.
