St. BONAVENTURE

Christian Saint

Patron Saint of Cardinals and Communion

Bishop and Cardinal from Tuscany. Known as ‘The Seraphic Doctor’ he attempted to distinguish between philosophy, nature and theology.

He became Master General of the Franciscan Order. But his prestige didn’t go to his head. When the promotional trappings of a Cardinal were brought to him he was found to be washing the dishes.

He asked them to hang the miter on a tree until he was finished.
