St. ANTHONY OF THE CAVES

Christian Saint

Also known as Anthony Pechersky, Anthony-Of-Kiev

Russian caveman

He was a hermit. Trying to spread the word in Russia was a tough one. All the monasteries were manned by foreigners who couldn’t pronounce ‘Kiev’ without making the locals laugh.

Russian-born, our lad knew just what was needed to attract the peasants. Retire to a cave. No one can resist a hermit. Caves first — monasteries will follow when the following is big enough to fill one.
