St. ALBERT CHMIELOWSKI

Christian Saint

A one-legged painter from Kracow who found that his real mission in life was to shelter the homeless

A war veteran crippled at the age of seventeen, he abandoned his brushes, became a Franciscan tertiary and built up retreats and shelters all over Poland.

By the time he had finished he was distributing 20,000 loaves a year to the poor. We have no idea of his artistic abilities.

No-one seems to have given him a feast day. But he died on Christmas Day 1916, so why not remember him this festive season? Just a suggestion.
