St. CHARLES OF BLOIS

Christian Saint

Also known as Charles De Blois, Charles Of Blois-Châtillon

Patron Saint of Prisoners

A military life rather than a monastic one. Related to the King of Brittany, war was never that far away.

Our caring hero supplied food for refugees, care for the wounded and prayers for the dead. And strictly no fighting in Sunday. Mass rather than mass slaughter.

Captured by the English, he spent nine years in the Tower of London where he whiled away the time writing a biography of St. Ivo. Which we have not read, so consequently know nothing about him.

On his release and return to France, Charles was killed in battle the next year.
