AMITABHA

Buddhist Heavenly God

Buddha in Western Paradise mode

One of the five Dhyani Buddhas, he is a red Buddha of Contemplation who faces west.

He is Principal Buddha in the Pure Land branch of Buddhism where he sits on a lotus flower throne and welcomes visitors, especially if they have come to repent their sins.

He is attended upon by Avalokitesvara. If you are Chinese you can call him Emituofo, and her Guanyin or one of the variations. He is known in Tibet as Amitayus and in Japan as Amida.
