MUKUNGA M'BURA

Kikuyu Demon

Also known as Mukunga Mbura

A most bizarre Rainbow Monster

Can you believe a rainbow that turns predatory? The rampaging Mukunga M’bura swallowed up a whole tribe — including livestock. Only one boy escaped from the pretty thing’s evil clutches. And no, his name wasn’t Dorothy.

When he was old enough, he set out to destroy the malignant rainbow. But when it came to the crunch, Mukunga M’bura the Rainbow Demon turned out to be a complete cowardly-custard.

He held out a multicolored hand and begged the boy to pierce a finger. To his surprise — and ours — all the lost villagers toppled out of the hole, intact and very much alive.

There was much rejoicing, but when it was over the boy began to brood. There were deep moral questions to be answered. How far can you trust a rainbow? What was to stop Mukunga M’bura doing it all over again?

Best not to take chances. The boy crept off and chopped the pathetically hued body into its component colors. He was delighted when all swallowed livestock poured out.

So that’s the end of that. The boy returned in triumph singing ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. Everyone lived happily ever after without ever missing the color indigo.
