GLUT
Norse Unknown Goddess
Not the secret wife of Loki
It’s a little-known fact that Loki has a secret wife named Glut. It’s an even more little-known fact that actually he doesn’t.
It’s all a case of mistaken identity. Glut was really the wife of Hálogi, the fabled King of Norway in the Thorstein Saga. Several modern writers thought this ‘High-Logi’ character must refer to Loki and dragged him into the whole saga, accidentally elevating the fictional GLUT into a new goddess in the process.
Loki’s non-existent wife must have been a fiery one — her name means ‘Glowing’ and her daughters (Einmyria and Eisa) are ‘Embers’ and Ashes’.
Actually, there could be more to this than meets the eye. We wouldn’t be surprised if Glut really is his secret wife and the whole fiasco is one of Loki’s pranks.
