DÍSIR

Norse Protection Spirits

Also known as Disir

Protective female spirits of Fate and Fertility

These ladies are spirits who behave in a similar way to the Valkyries. They look after dead warriors, offer protection in battle and generally make themselves useful. Unless you get on their bad side – in which case watch out.

The best way to get on the good side of the Dísir is to endulge them with plenty of sacrificial fun.

Cue the Dísablót – a midwinter festival of drinking, rites and storytelling.

After everyone gets blotto the quality of the stories is bound to deteriorate, which gives them an excuse to do it all again next year.
